Kansas CCIM Chapter Course Scholarship Program
Scholarship Program Guidelines
The Kansas CCIM Chapter Course Scholarship Program was created to support qualified real estate professionals in their efforts to achieve the CCIM designation. Recipients should exemplify the high caliber of professionals that comprise the CCIM Institute.

Colby Sandlian Scholarship
The Colby Sandlian Scholarship was established in 2015, for an annual gift of $1,000 toward a CCIM Core Course. Colby Sandlian, CCIM, S.E.C., of Wichita, Kansas, has been in the commercial investment real estate business for a career spanning over 50 years, having developed everything from strip centers and service stations in the 1950’s to self-storage facilities starting in the 1970’s. His career includes activities in all aspects of the real estate brokerage industry, as well as the ownership and development of various investment properties and income producing real estate. In 2005, Colby received the first annual Lifetime Achievement Award from the Kansas CCIM Chapter and the Wichita State University Center for Real Estate.
Jack Hunt Scholarship
The Jack Hunt Scholarship was established in 2009, for an annual gift of $2,000 toward a CCIM Core Course. Jack Hunt, CCIM, of Wichita, Kansas, received a Purple Heart during World War II. His career included building over 500 homes, developing and building shopping centers, apartments, mobile home parks, nursing homes, and a multitude of real estate interests throughout the U.S. Jack received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Kansas CCIM Chapter in 2006. He passed away in 2008 at 86 years of age.


Darrell Leason Scholarship
The Darrell Leason Scholarship was established in 2020, for an annual gift of $1,000 toward a CCIM Core Course. Darrell Leason began his real estate career in 1958 working for Colby Sandlian. Mr. Leason worked for Sandlian Realty for twelve years, before striking out on his own in 1970 forming Brokers Investment Corporation with Jack R. Hunt and James R. Burns At one point, Brokers Investment Corporation was the largest commercial real estate firm in Wichita. In 2015, Mr. Leason received the Wichita Business Journal’s Commercial Transaction of the Year award as well as the Kansas CCIM/Wichita State University Lifetime Achievement Award for Commercial Real Estate. Mr. Leason was not motivated by awards but always sought to create “win/win” transactions. Mr. Leason passed away in 2016 after 57 years as a commercial and investment real estate broker, exchanger, real estate problem solver and developer. He was an active member of the Kansas Chapter of CCIM, the National Council of Exchangers and the Society of Exchange Counselors.
Kansas Chapter CCIM Scholarships
Layman L. Clark | Kansas CCIM Chapter Scholarship in Real Estate at Wichita State University
In 2011, noted real estate developer and WSU alumnus Stephen L. Clark endowed a scholarship at Wichita State University in honor of his father and in order to support WSU students with a demonstrated interest in a commercial real estate career. This scholarship helps cover the costs of earning bachelor’s degree in real estate at WSU, the only state university in Kansas with a real estate degree program.
